The appearance of stains on permanent teeth

Having porcelain teeth and healthy white teeth is the desire of every person. The appearance of stains on permanent teeth  is , unfortunately, a natural process to which we are all exposed.

Hence, it is one of the main dental problems. Spots can appear due to certain medications. They can also come from poor hygiene or genetics.

There are several types of stains. You can identify them by their color. When you know which one is affecting you, you will be able to eradicate it effectively. Indeed, nowadays, dental aesthetics has become a trend. There are therefore innovative whitening treatments.

Types of  stains on permanent teeth

Tooth darkening  is a constant threat. The latter affects both permanent teeth and temporary teeth. However, depending on the color of the stain, you can identify what is causing it. The most common stains on permanent teeth are:

White spots

These come from:

  • Caries.  When the decay is in its initial phase, we can observe a whiter area on the tooth, following  the demineralization of the enamel. But thanks to the early application of a special fluoride, it can be eradicated.
  • Fluorosis. Its detection is very easy due to the spotty appearance. The latter results from  the excessive use of fluoride from an early age to adulthood. In some countries, water intended for human consumption contains a large amount of fluoride. So, when ingested, it damages the teeth.

Brown spots

Their appearance is due to bad eating habits. These are superficial and are  housed  usually  in the inner part of the teeth.

It can occur after consuming dark drinks. For example, coffee, sugary drinks like cola and red wine. Also smoke tobacco, because nicotine causes alterations in the original color.

Gray spots

They happen due to trauma. When a  tooth suffers a blow or a fall, the  result of a fight or an accident, it changes its natural color. This then takes on a grayish tint due to pulp necrosis. That is, the death of the nerve that was affected by the shock.

In extreme cases, the person may experience discomfort while chewing. It will therefore be necessary to resort to endodontics to relieve the pain.

Oral health is important from the first years of life to avoid problems such as stains on permanent teeth.

Black spots

These are one of the most remarkable. Among their causes are:

  • Mouthwashes.  This product contains an antibacterial substance called chlorhexidine. Its excessive consumption, as well as its abuse, causes black spots. However, the appearance of spots will depend on factors such as the concentration of chlorhexidine and the duration of treatment.
  • Tartar.  It is very common in people with conditions such as periodontitis. Indeed,  the dento-bacterial plaque  turns into  tartar which lodges on the surface of the teeth. Also, it causes bad breath and complete bone loss.

Green spots

Poor oral hygiene is the cause of these. These spots are found on the neck of the teeth. They are very common in children and adolescents who do not have proper dental care and hygiene.

This is because not brushing properly leads bacteria to lodge on the teeth and gums for a long time. Then it causes phenacetin, a  substance that breaks down blood in the gums, to  stain the teeth that color.

Yellow spots

Their main cause is dentobacterial plaque. The latter results from the decomposition of food debris. So, in combination with bad brushing, the teeth start to take on this color.

3 ways to remove  stains from permanent teeth

These spots can be avoided  with periodic visits to the dentist. The latter may apply some of the treatments that we will indicate to you below:

Dental cleaning

It is  a deep cleaning carried out by a professional. This way the dentist will remove any stain.  This cleaning will also remove tartar lodged under the gums and dento-bacterial plaque. It is advisable to do at least two per year. Thus, you will have healthy gums and white teeth free of cavities.

There are many who dream of the perfect smile and the spots against it.

Teeth whitening

It is an aesthetic treatment. In the latter, active ingredients are used  that penetrate the enamel and remove all stains inside and outside the teeth. The effect is incredible! You get shiny teeth and a brighter smile.

Dental crowns

They are a kind of  blanket with which we cover teeth that have stains that no treatment has been able to remove. Especially those that come from drugs or the excessive use of fluoride.

Avoid the appearance of stains on the permanent teeth. Don’t wait for them to appear to start taking care of your teeth. Remember that, like many other conditions, most of them can be avoided with simple, everyday measures.
