Society is made up of very different people, both physically and culturally and intellectually. This is very enriching for our development because, if we were all equal and all thought alike, life would have no interest.

Jour Nuit  is a short film that makes us reflect on this theme, on the respect and acceptance of differences and diversity.

Day and Night: a short film about acceptance

In the first scene of the short film, we can see a rooster crowing, which represents the break of day. Then,  the first character in the story, Jour, wakes up and begins his day in a normal way. However, suddenly, he comes across the other protagonist of the short film, Nuit, who sleeps placidly.

Jour Nuit, the short film.

Day and Night are very particular because, in their body, we see reproduce different scenes and situations related to what happens respectively during the day (the sunrise, a rainbow that appears, from moment to moment. beach, pool, country, etc.) or at night (the moon appears, there are fireworks, fireflies, parties, etc.).

Therefore,  one could say that they are both completely different, that they are opposite poles. This explains why, at first, they do not understand each other and even argue in an aggressive and violent way.

However, once they open their minds and are able to appreciate all of the events that are happening inside of each other, they start to get along and have fun together.

When the sun sets, they become equal again, with the same orange hue and, after that, come together through an embrace. Day becomes night, and Night becomes day.

Thus, through this beautiful story, the creator of this short film, Teddy Newton, invites us to reflect on the importance of accepting diversity.

In fact, it is surely because of the original way of conveying this message that Jour Nuit  was nominated in the category of Best Animated Short Film at the 83rd Academy Awards and the 38th Annual Annie Awards.

Acceptance of diversity

Just like in this animated short,  we are often afraid of the unknown. It is for this reason that we sometimes have a hard time relating to new people, especially if we perceive them to be different.

However, as adults,  we must make an effort and understand that these are only prejudices. The ideal is to know a wide variety of people, with tastes, ideas, opinions and thoughts different from our own. Only in this way can we grow and develop as people.

In addition, it is necessary to instill these civic and social values in children from an early age, by teaching them to be inclusive.

In other words, we need  to educate them to accept and respect diversity, to try to empathize with everyone, recognizing the positive aspects that come from surrounding themselves with them. different and special people.

Only in this way will they be able to cohabit peacefully with all types of people, learning and taking advantage of this enriching situation.
