4 Family Activities At Home – Being Parents
During this confinement that we are living, it is important to know what activities to do at home with the family so as not to get bored, but also to use our free time productively.
In this sense, whether it is to learn something new or to improve certain skills, there are activities to share as a family that can be useful and a lot of fun.
When we’re home and have some free time
Due to the circumstances we live in, and although some family members have to go to work, the rest of the time we all have to be home. So we have to face the chores of the house and help the children with their schoolwork.
We can even use our free time to do tasks that we postpone throughout the year because our work and family obligations do not allow us to do so, such as tidying up clothes, tidying up furniture or painting a space in the room. House.
However, beyond the obligations of the home and helping children with their homework, free time is the period during which there are no obligations and which is devoted to pleasure and rest. Rest is therefore fundamental, and we must take advantage of it when we have the time.
But it is also important that we devote part of our free time to family activities, activities with which we can have fun and, why not, learn something new.
So the paradox of COVID-19 is that while it is a serious problem around the world, it is also an opportunity to bring families closer together and allow them to spend more time together.
Doing fun activities at home is a good way to overcome this exceptional situation that we are going through. It’s a good way to give us some rest and make up for lost time to be with our family. A time that we do not have, a consequence of the frantic and accelerated life that we are used to leading.
4 family activities at home
We offer the following 4 activities to do with the family at home:
Painting mandalas
It is a very fun activity but above all very relaxing. All you need are beautiful mandalas (which you can download online and print), and colored pencils and markers. So the whole family, sitting quietly at a table, can share a few hours of the day painting and combining colors, as well as talking.
Becoming a family of chefs, a fun activity to do as a family at home …
Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, or on an afternoon when it’s time to bake a good cake, cooking can be a great activity to share with the family. Thus, all members can participate in the development of a recipe and in a vote, because, a priori, they can democratically choose the recipe to cook (sweet or savory) and distribute the tasks during its development.
Play sports and exercise
During the days of confinement, the whole family can set a specific time in the daily routine for exercising. Deciding to exercise all together as a family is a good option because this way together you can encourage each other so that the motivation does not fade.
In addition, on the Internet we can find an infinite number of platforms where professionals and specialists in sport and fitness teach.
You will find videos and tutorials of all kinds of exercises and classes (aerobics, yoga, HIIT cardio, functional exercises or with your own weight), as well as instructions on how to perform the movements correctly.
Time for concentration
Another great option is to come up with an activity whose main objective is to learn something new. So each family member can come up with a topic or concept to read and research. Learn, for example, what the immune system (mentioned so often with COVID-19) means and how we need to feed ourselves to strengthen it.
Or even review and strengthen English. Learn the first concepts and expressions of this language for novices. And even learn something new about geography, get to know more country capitals around the world and recognize where the monuments that are a heritage of humanity are located. The options are plentiful!
One last activity to do with the family at home: Tutti Frutti or the little bac game!
Although we said at the beginning that we would share 4 family activities at home, we want to share a fifth with you.
It’s a game that is not only super fun, but also allows us to learn a lot of things about general culture : about geography, cinema, grammar, flora and fauna …
In addition, we will sharpen our memory and mental quickness, and not only will we learn new vocabulary, but we will remember forgotten concepts and we will learn from others.
We are referring to the Tutti Frutti . This is a paper and pencil game in which participants must write words starting with the same letter (vowel or consonant), drawn at random.
To do this, they have to make a template with boxes and write above the template, horizontally, mutually agreed upon categories, such as names, countries or capitals, fruits and vegetables, movies or verbs. On the other hand, in the left margin, the letters used and the marks obtained will be written vertically.
Thus, with the cry of “ stop ” or “ tutti frutti ”, the participant who manages to fill the box with all the words which begin with the chosen letter is the one who wins the round. Then the idea is that everyone shares and reviews with the rest of the group the words they have chosen for each category. Then another letter is chosen and a new, fun and didactic trick can be started.
